Marion Davis Nelson, 80 of Wethersfield passed away on November 3, 2023. She was born on November 29, 1942, in Hartford. Marion was the daughter of the late Ernest and Esther (Redfield) Davis. Her family lived in Coventry until she was three at which time her family moved to Windsor. She attended kindergarten at the Stony Hill School in Windsor, a one-room schoolhouse. First through sixth grade, she attended the Deerfield school, then Windsor High school, graduating in 1960. After graduating, she went to work at the Aetna Life Insurance, Pratt and Whitney (CANEL), and Combustion Engineering working as a keypunch operator. In 1962, Marion married her high school sweetheart, Harry Nelson. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in October of 2022, at a party given by their children. In 1989, Marion volunteered at the Network Against Domestic Abuse in Enfield where she was in charge of clothing donations. In 1993, Marion and her husband moved to Arnold, Missouri for 9 years before returning to Connecticut in 2001. During those years, she drove back to Connecticut to visit family and worked part time at Loomis Chaffee, with her sister Barbara and niece Robbin in the school bookstore. Over the years Marion enjoyed camping, volleyball, bowling, square dancing, gardening, reading, traveling, water aerobics, jigsaw puzzles, genealogy, playing cards and going to Bingo.
She enjoyed traveling to many places, starting in 1949 when her parents and sisters took a 6-week cross-country trip to California, camping most of the way. When she was young, the family also camped at Hammonasset State Park for many years. When Marion and Harry had their own children they kept up the camping tradition, traveling to many places both in the US and Canada. The family camped at Hammonasset State Park and Rocky Neck State Park in CT, and then at Burlingame State Park and the Wawaloam campground in RI. Marion and her husband Harry traveled to England with her sister Barbara in 1984. Over the years, they took many trips, some of which included Lake Louise in Calgary with her father and sister, Alaska with her two sisters and a friend, the Bahamas, and Bermuda.
Marion leaves her husband of 61 years Harry Nelson. She also leaves her sister Charlotte Mulligan of Windsor Locks, her daughter Wendy Pardo and son-in-law, Gilberto Pardo of South Windsor and her son Steven Nelson and his wife Lisa Nelson of Berlin. Marion also leaves her six grandchildren, Jordan, Marissa and Alaina Lewis and Cameren, Sydney and Ethan Nelson. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Snow, of Windsor Locks.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 8 from 5-7 in the evening at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford at the convenience of the family.
