On October 07, 2019, heaven gained another angel when Makayla Eyanna Thomas took her final breath at the tender age of 13. She and her twin brother James, Jr., were born in Hartford on April 20, 2006, to Eulalia “Lolly” Garcia and James Thomas.
Makayla endured so much in her short life yet was such a happy warrior. She was an extremely strong, determined, adorable, intelligent, resilient, bubbly and loving young girl. She lit up a room when she came in and had a way of making people smile no matter what they were going through, especially with her own special sign of affection, "hand hugging". Makayla loved being taken for long walks, listening to harmonica music, especially Aiden and Evelyn, and hanging out with family and friends. She loved the beach and all large bodies of water. Makayla was her mom's everything! She taught everyone about true love, patience and understanding with her silent strength and defeated the odds on so many occasions. Makayla was someone to be admired.
She will forever be missed and remembered by her mom and twin brother; her stepfather, Kahari Robinson; her #1 grandma, Margaret Garcia; her aunts, Marielise Rivera-Garcia and Adelina Silverman; several cousins to include her special baby cousin, Cheyanne Gooch and a ton of amazing friends at her school, The Gengras Center and at the CT Children’s Medical Center, where she spent a lot of time during her beautiful life. The family would like to extend an indebted thanks to the attentive and tireless nurses who became family to Makayla; Pat, Rachael and Brenda. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to Connecticut Children’s Sunflower Kids Palliative Care Program that had the privilege of caring for Makayla during her journey.
