Peacefully at home and surrounded by family, Lynn Marie Burdick passed away on November 16, 2024. Born in Torrington on August 12, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude Burdick and the late Russell and Parmy Burdick.
In this often dark and turbulent world, Lynn was an enormous bright light. She was an unfailingly sincere and positive individual. Authentic in every caring inquiry to all in her life, Lynn led with her heart and with her compassion at hand.
A graduate of Torrington High School’s 1962 class, her Senior portrait was matched with prose reading, “Lynn always had a good word for everyone. Perhaps this is why she has had such a wide circle of friends. We will never forget her courtesy and bright smile.” It was these close-knit friendships that served her the length of her life.
A longtime manager in the insurance arena, Lynn began her career at Connecticut General, followed by The Little Aetna, Aetna Life & Casualty, and CIGNA. It was at Lincoln Financial in Hartford that she retired after 35 years in the industry. Lynn stayed in the greater Hartford area accumulating friends, stories and laughter with each professional transition. Lynn loved to work and was passionate about her roles, but most gratifying were the relationships she formed with her adored colleagues.
Lynn was always eager to try something new, see the world, and lend a hand where needed. Retirement granted her the opportunity to pave new paths. A revived love of gardening bloomed. She came to coin herself an ice cream connoisseur. Her adoration of dogs took off. Travel became a passion as she traversed the globe to over 20 far flung countries, from The Galapagos Islands to a safari in Kenya, yoga trips to Brazil, and hiking in Hawaii. And she devoted much of her free time to friendships and palling around New York City with her only child, Chantal.
Lynn also served as a board member of the Nutmeg Ballet for eight years, and she held the offices of Vice President and then President of her Homeowners Association for 20 years.
By far her most treasured role, one she flourished in, was as Grandmother to her prized possessions, Tallulah and Sheriff Glancy. Whether it be rocking them as crying babies at 3 a.m., sledding with them at age 70, or mastering the moves to a TikTok dance, Lynn was selfless in wants and rich in love. She was never afraid to be the butt of the joke as long as it elicited laugher from her Grandchildren.
After being diagnosed with Lung Cancer in 2018, Lynn’s fight against it was prize worthy. All marveled that she didn’t make room for the crushing disease to steal the independence she was known for. Instead, she continued to ski, travel unrestrained, and, most astonishingly, remained steadfastly positive. Lynn was radiant and touched all who crossed her path. Her doctors credited her extraordinarily upbeat, sunny disposition to her long life post diagnosis.
Beloved mother of Chantal Poirier Glancy (Jim); dear sister to Doug (Leona) Burdick and Larry Burdick of CA, Palma Marsh and Eydie Coury of Florida; cherished grandmother of Tallulah Glancy and Sheriff Glancy. Also lovingly survived by six nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Sloan Kettering, as well as Lynn’s caregiver at home, Jhenelle.
The family will receive friends at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., on Thursday, November 21 from 5-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield on Friday, November 22 at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lynn’s memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation.
