Luigi G. Porretta, 75, of West Hartford, the beloved husband of Maria R. (Gemmiti) Porretta, passed away Monday, (September 29, 2008), at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 27, 1932 in Sora, province of Frosinone, Italy, the son of the late Angelo and Maria (Castellucci) Porretta. Luigi was proud to have served as a Corporal Major in the Italian Army. Prior to his retirement in 1990 he was employed as a tool and die maker by Royal Typewriter and Cushman Industries. In addition to Maria, his wife of 50 years, Luigi is survived by two sons Angelo Porretta and his wife Laura of Guilford and Anthony Porretta and his wife Christine of Pittsburg, PA; a daughter Rita Carrier and her husband Michael of New Britain; two sisters Rita Porretta of Italy and Clara Zaccardelli of East Hartford; eight grandchildren, Christina, Robert and Timothy Carrier of New Britain, Sophia, Nicholas and Lauren Porretta of Guilford and John ""Brodie"" and Abigail Porretta of Pittsburgh, PA, and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by a sister Anna DiCocco. Funeral Services will leave Thursday, October 2, at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd, Wethersfield for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Helena Church, 30 Echo Lane, West Hartford. Entombment will follow in the new mausoleum at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
