John J. Pickens, 81, of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday June 1, 2022. John was born in Monaca, PA on September 3, 1940. He served in Unites States Army during the Vietnam War, where he received a Bronze Star. John retired from the Army after serving for over 22 years. After his retirement, he continued to serve veterans as a recruiter for transitioning veterans to civilian life in the States of Florida and Pennsylvania.
John is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janice Hoth-Pickens of Wethersfield; two daughters, Theresa M. Pickens of Newington and Anne J. Pickens of Newington as well as his four-legged fur-baby girl “Maggie”. John had a son, Robert J. Pickens who passed on December 6, 1996.
May he rest in the Glory of God.
A graveside service with military honors will take place at 10 am on Wednesday, June 15th at the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT. Everyone is asked to please meet directly at the cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield.
