Giuseppe “Joseph” Tata, 90 of Wethersfield, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2021, with his wife, Mary (Franzo) Tata and children by his side. Born in Floridia, Province of Siracusa, Italy on October 13, 1930, he immigrated to Connecticut at the age of 17 and was the third son of the late Sebastiano and Angela (Gianni) Tata. A long time Hartford and Wethersfield resident, he first worked at Stackpole Moore Tryon as an accomplished tailor and subsequently at Manchester Modes, Inc., as general manager in the garment quality control division for over 30 years. He then started his own business, Tata’s Distinctive Tailoring at Riverdale Farms, Avon and worked until 84, servicing dedicated customers who sought out his fine work. During Covid, Joseph began making and stitching handmade masks for family and friends. He was the original co-founder and longtime member of the Italian American Star club of Hartford, where in his later years would enjoy spending Sunday mornings with his close friends. Joseph loved to cook, make wine, watch soccer and UCONN women’s basketball. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and his family was his greatest pride and joy. The family home was seeped in deep Italian traditions, always open, where a seat at the table and a glass of wine was waiting for friends, extended family members and those who had no place to go.
Besides his beloved wife Mary of 65 years, he leaves his three children, Elaine R. Tata of South Yarmouth, MA, Sebastian P. Tata and wife Susan of Wethersfield, Joseph Tata, Jr. and wife Donna of Windsor and Lake Work, FL. He will also be forever missed by his grandchildren, Brianna, Bianca and Joseph Tata, and Nicholas Russell, his loving and caring sister, Tina Patrissi of Rocky Hill, and brother, Aurileo Tata and wife Mary of Italy. Joseph also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Joseph was predeceased by his brothers, Antonio, Salvatore and Sebastiano Tata.
His family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Hartford Hospital ICU 8, for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Joseph.
