George W. Jorgensen, 80, of Hartford, loving husband of Sharon Jones Jorgensen and the late Linda A. van de Wint Jorgensen, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 7, 2024 in Dallas, TX. Born in New Britain on September 19, 1944, he was the only child of the late Sigurd and Agnes (Simonik) Jorgensen. George grew up in Brooklyn, NY and attended Brooklyn Prep, where he played football and baseball and ran track. He spent his summers in Southington with his aunts, uncles and cousins, making memories he cherished throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he established the George T. Horn memorial scholarship fund and was a lifelong supporter of the Fighting Irish football team. He was also in the ROTC program, completed his basic training at Ft. Drum in NY and served in the CT National Guard. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Isabella Council 15 in Southington. George began his career as an accountant with Price Waterhouse, eventually transitioning to a career in construction, development and consulting. He also helped many political candidates and elected officials at the state and federal levels. He did work for the Kennedy family and President Jimmy Carter, traveling to Israel and Egypt as part of the diplomatic efforts that led to the Camp David Accords. A sharp dresser throughout his life, he will be remembered for his unique sense of style, his larger than life personality and his ability to connect with anyone he met, in any room he walked in.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, George will be forever missed by his wife Sharon; three children, Sarah Jorgensen, Sally Jorgensen Dunster and her husband Colin, and David Jorgensen and wife Rachel Lutzker Jorgensen, and his seven adored grandchildren, Tre and Lily Bucchi, Dillon and Skylar Stephens and Samantha, Alexander and James Jorgensen.
