On April 17, 2023, Doreen (Dory) McGrath, died peacefully at home. Dory was born in Waterbury on January 05, 1952, daughter of Marge (Dillon) and Philip McGrath. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School In 1969. She graduated With a BSN in Nursing from Boston College and received her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Univ. of Washington in Seattle. Dory knew from an early age she wanted to become a nurse. She began her career at Newington Children’s Hospital and became a Director of Nursing. She was very involved when NCH transitioned to CCMC. She then began working at the State Dept. of Development Services as Health Services Director for the North Region and was promoted to Health and Clinical Services Director for the entire Dept. of Development Services. Dory was always an optimist who believed the glass was half-full and persevered through health issues during her life. She was a loyal fan of all the Boston pro sports teams. Dory had a group of friends from grammar and high school who she remained extremely close to her entire life. She spent many vacations and traveled extensively with the group and her sister Kathy. The family appreciates all the love and support Dory received in the past few months. A special thanks to two friends Trish Lilley and Geri Fox, were part of Dory’s family. In addition to her parents, Dory was predeceased by her brother Philip and sister Kathy. She is survived by her brother, John McGrath of Waterbury.
Funeral services for Doreen will be held Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Parish at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield, was entrusted.
