Antonio “Anthony” Fabrizio Mazzei, 43, of East Hartford, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 30, 2021. Born in Hartford on November 18, 1977, he was the beloved son of Gaetano and Mady (Cohen) Mazzei of Wethersfield. Tony grew up in Wethersfield and was a 1995 graduate of Wethersfield High School. He earned an Associate’s Degree from Springfield College. Tony was a veteran in the mortgage industry, working as a Senior Loan Officer for Movement Mortgage. He loved the mortgage industry and it showed in his work. He was tri-lingual, speaking fluent English, Italian and Spanish. He was often recognized as a top producer and this year would have been his best year in the industry ever in his career. Tony was extremely proud of his dual Italian/Colombian heritage. He planted a huge vegetable garden every year, which was his place of solace and tranquility as he waited for life to grow. He was a phenomenal cook and started a Facebook page at the beginning of the pandemic to give people a place to share recipes and photos of their cooking. Tony’s sense of humor and banter with his fellow online cooks brought so much joy to so many people during a difficult time, and everyone on the page looked forward to the cooking competitions, or “cook offs” as he called them, between him and other chefs. He was a huge sports fan and his dream was to be an ESPN announcer. Tony had a huge heart and wore it on his sleeve. He was a doting father who adored his daughter Alessandra, and a dedicated family man who enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family and friends. He also was a lover of all animals, especially his dogs (His “boys”), Rocco and Bruno.
n addition to his loving parents, Tony will be forever loved and missed by his beloved daughter who was the light of his life, Alessandra Mazzei; his brother, Francesco Mazzei and his sister, Patty McGrath and husband Sean, all of Wethersfield. Tony is also survived by his dear nieces and nephew, Nicholas, Victoria and Julianna McGrath, who he was so proud of, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, co-workers and friends, all of whom he loved dearly and who will miss him forever.
A couple quotes about Tony shared on Facebook; “If you were lucky enough to have Antonio Mazzei in your life, you were lucky enough. I hope he knows how much he was loved by all the lucky ones in his life. Thank you for the love and laughter in our lives, your legacy will continue to live on endlessly.” “Tony's #1 motive was to have fun with this. He loved all the banter and little competitions for fun ....A true entertainer! He wanted everyone to be happy and share in his love and passion for all types of cuisine. I know he was so proud of this group and it truly meant so much to him….. We never could have dreamed it would have grown so big out of our little circle of family and friends. Now you all are part of it! Let this group remain and thrive the way he would want it to. Let's all always remember him and how he helped us all.”
Tony’s family and friends meant the world to him, even if you were not related to him directly, he always made you feel as though you were his family. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
