Voula (Meleteas) Kokenes, 84 of Hillsdale, NJ passed away on March 10, 2014. Born in Kalamata, Greece, she came to the US in 1948, lived in Brooklyn, NY and settled in Hillsdale in 1997. Prior to raising her family and being a homemaker, Voula worked as a seamstress for many years. Voula was patient and content with life - a woman who loved to cook and maintain her garden, growing tomatoes and herbs. She also loved to cut coupons and make her weekly trips to Shop-Rite. She was predeceased by her husband, Chris Kokenes in 1995; her daughter, Marianne Kokenes-Livathinos in 1996; her brothers, Angelo, George and Panagioti Meleteas; her sister, Maria Vavaroutos; her sister-in-law, Rothame Meleteas and her son-in-law, Michael Hewitt. Voula is survived by her daughters, Diana Hewitt, Susan Kokenes and Christina Fanelli and her husband Robert and her grandchildren, Andrew, Christine, Alex Livathinos, Michael Hewitt, Jr., Annie Collins, Gregory and Jennifer Fanelli. Funeral from the Becker Funeral Home on Thursday 8:30am with a 9:30am funeral mass at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, Paramus, NJ. The entombment will follow in Garden of Memories, Twp. of Washington, NJ. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9pm at the funeral home.
