It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Romano, 88, of New Milford, NJ, formerly of Paramus, NJ on Monday, December 16th. He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa Romano, loving father of Louis Romano, Sallyanne Calandrillo, and Suzanne Kelly. Proud grandfather of the late Christopher Calandrillo, Matthew Calandrillo and his wife Justine, Andrew Romano, Jessica Kelly, Alexa Chaparro and her husband Joel, James Kelly and Jaclyn Kelly. He is also survived by the newest addition, his great granddaughter, Juliana Calandrillo.
Dearest brother of Anthony Romano and Loretta, and beloved brother-in-law of Rocco J. Urgo (2005) and Joan, Michael Urgo (2022) and Antonella, Lucretia Bernardo and T om, and Alfred Urgo. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Louis’ life was defined by his unwavering commitment to his community and his life-long career. Born and raised on Sullivan Street in New York City, he relocated with the love of his life to Paramus NJ where he raised his family. Louis had a distinguished 50-year career in the trucking industry where he became a well-known and respected figure for his leadership and expertise. Louis recently served as a Quality-of-Life Officer and was deeply involved in the Paramus community. As a member of the Planning Board, he helped shape the town’s development.
Active in the Democratic Club, he promoted local engagement and initiatives and dedicated countless hours to Unico, supporting charitable causes. His public service continued as a Paramus Councilman and through his role with the New Jersey State Parole Board, focusing on justice and rehabilitation. Additionally, he contributed to state safety efforts as a member of the Traffic Club of Newark. Known for his integrity, work ethic, and caring nature, Louis was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He balanced his career with a deep commitment to his family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of service, dedication, and kindness. Louis’ influence will be felt for years to come.
The family will receive their relatives and friends on Thursday, December 19th, 2024 at Becker Funeral Home 219 Kinderkamack Road in Westwood, New Jersey from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-9pm. The interment will take place on Friday, December 20th, 2024 at 11am at the George Washington Cemetery in Paramus NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Heart Association.
