Gloria O. Mattia, 77, of Washington Township, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019. She was the beloved wife for the past 53 years of Jose. She was also a devoted mother to her two daughters: Dr. Andrea Mattia Certo and Melissa Mattia Lister. She was a loving grandmother (“Lela” / “Gaga”) to her five grandchildren: Ryan, Alexandra, Jessica, Jackson and Tyler. She is also survived by her cherished sister, Martha Oliver, her best friend Carmen Keegan, her son-in-laws: DJ Certo and Ashley Lister, as well as many nieces/nephews.
Born in Galvez, Argentina, she came to White Plains, NY in 1965, where she remained for over 40 years. She moved to Washington Twp. in 2009 to be closer to her family. Gloria worked as an interpreter for over 30 years, establishing and running her own very successful interpreting and translating business (Precise Translations) until she retired. She was a faithful Catholic, avid cook, tireless volunteer for the Rotary Club and other organizations, and loyal friend. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting – especially beautiful sweaters for her grandchildren, and spending the cold NJ winters on the beaches of Brazil with various friends. The family will receive their relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association (KCA) at www.kidneycancer.org
