Edward "Jerry" Meller, Sr.

It’s with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Edward (Jerry) Meller Sr. on December 8th, 2024 peacefully in his home with his wife and dog. Jerry is deeply mourned by his beloved and adoring wife Janet of seventy years, their three children: daughter Lorraine and her husband David; son Jerry Jr. and his wife Louise and their youngest son, wife, and two granddaughters as well as (children of Jerry Jr.) granddaughter Amanda and her husband Rob, grandson JJ, his wife Tara and their children (great-grandchildren) Grant and Morgan as well as his dog, Zeke.

He is now reunited with his identical twin brother George, his oldest brother, Henry as well as his mother Sophie and father Henry…and all of the family dogs that loved “dad/poppop” so much!

Jerry was an honorable Navy veteran (serving in the Korean War) with the Lighter Than Air Unit, a charitable Freemason, a noble member of the American Legion/ Post 170 in Rochelle Park, NJ, a proud graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, a hardworking business owner of Fardale Liquor & Wine and of Ridgefield Wine & Liquors and a knowledgeable employee of Sears Roebuck & Company for 25 years.

He played the violin in the symphony at Cliffside Park High School, where he grew up.

While stationed in Massachusetts in the Navy, he met the love of his life and the rest is history.

In Jerry’s prime, he loved being immersed in nature - riding the waves at the beach, planting trees at the farm, fishing off of the pier, planting and eating tomatoes (with salt) right from his garden, listening to and feeding the wild birds, sitting on the back porch reading the clouds coming in and watching/listening to the rain and thunder rumble during a storm.

He took pride in his home, always cleaning, fixing and painting something. You could find him enjoying a “small” beer or Coke after mowing “his” lawn or treating himself to his favorites Hiram’s or lobster!

Jerry loved history and sports - watching National Geographic programs, the NY Giants and golf.

He also loved to read history novels and mysteries.

But, what Jerry loved most of all was his family. He was the best husband, father, poppop (grandfather and great-grandfather) and friend you could ask for; he was funny, smart, kind and generous.

Jerry brought joy to everyone he met, especially during this season, as he would string the Christmas lights up upon the tree we chose each year with such care; his smile would light up the tree.

We love you forever and always.
