Bensen, Carolyn B (nee Rode), 97, of Woodcliff Lake, formerly of Teaneck, passed away quietly on February 21. The beloved Mother and Grandmother was born in Kearny, NJ and moved to New Milford, NJ when she was 2 years old. She graduated from Hackensack High School and Burroughs Business School in New York City. She worked for General Foods as a Bookkeeper and later married Clarence Bensen in 1943. The couple moved to Teaneck, NJ where she became a full time homemaker who devoted herself to raising their family, which eventually consisted of three girls.
She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Oradell since the age of 2, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and was in charge of the Primary Education Dept. for many years. She was a wonderful spiritual guide for the little ones and helped instill a pride in the church that has passed on through generations. She was also active in the Episcopal Church Women, supervising an Outreach Group that contributed various items to those in need. In addition to her Church work, she enjoyed travelling and visiting many unique and exotic places.
She will be missed by her children Grace Oliff and her husband David, Claire Fry and her husband George, and Carolyn Bensen (Jr.) as well as by her grandchildren, Emily, Daniel and Alison Oliff and Chris and Katie Fry. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence and by her brother, William Rode, of New Milford.
The family will receive their friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9PM. The family will gather with their relatives and friends for the Funeral Mass at Church of the Annunciation, Oradell, NJ on Wednesday at 10AM. Interment will follow at George Washngton Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ.
