Barbara Zarski

Barbara (Bobbie) Ann Zarski, 79, of Mahwah, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, 2023, following a spirited fight against lung cancer. Barbara is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Veronica McHale, and her husband of 50 years, August. Barbara is survived by many loved ones, including her dear children Christine, Colleen and Brian, her beloved grandchildren Kevin, Michael and his wife Courtney, Nicole, and Christopher, her precious great-granddaughter Amelia, and Scarlette who she loved like her own. She was also a cherished sister of Joseph and his wife Terry, and a loving aunt of Margaret, Denise, and Michael. Barbara is also survived by so many loving cousins, grand-nieces and nephews, it would be too long to list.

Barbara was born and raised in The Bronx, New York where she attended St. John’s Grammar School. She graduated from high school at Thevenet Hall Academy, which is a Montessori boarding school in Highland Mills, New York. After meeting her husband Augie, they settled down in Closter, New Jersey, where they would call home for over 50 years. She was a parishioner of the Church of St. Mary for many years and was also a member of the Cornerstone Sisters prayer group. She had many friends and was a well-known member of her community. Barbara worked many jobs including mail clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, secretary at AT+T, crossing guard, and most importantly, a stay-at-home mom, and babysitter to her grandkids. She was a wonderful mother and grandma who was always there whenever she was needed. She had a gift for being able to make people smile or laugh in tough times and always made others feel comfortable around her. Barbara truly touched the hearts of every person who had the pleasure of meeting her and will be missed greatly.

A visitation for Barbara will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ 07675. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Church of St Mary , 20 Legion Place, Closter, NJ 07624.
