William Harris Dow arrived into this world on September 11, 1937 in Old Town, Maine. The only son and second child of Neal Severance Dow and Katherine Sarah Harris Dow and younger sibling to Eleanor Jean Dow Smith.
Bill grew up in Old Town and graduated from Old Town High School in 1955, where he was vice-president of his senior class. After high school, he studied engineering at the University of Maine in Orono. Upon graduating from UMaine, he moved to Baltimore and began his professional career. In 1963, he started working for Douglas, where he met his future wife, Barbara Louise Baros. Bill and Barbara were married in 1969. Soon thereafter, they established their home in Huntington Beach and completed their family with daughters Katie and Maureen.
During his 40-plus year career in engineering, Bill was an integral part of our nations’ role as a global leader in aerospace. In the 1960s he worked on the Saturn Program that would be part of the history of the moon landing. In the late 1970s and early 1980s he was part of the Solar One team out in the Mojave Desert that designed and built the solar panels that would eventually power the Space Station that orbits our planet today. He finalized his career in tactical defense and retired from Boeing in 2004. Upon his retirement, Bill began to spend the next chapter of his life on his two favorite things: Travelling with Barbara and spending time with their grandchildren, James, Joey, Holden, and Lorelai.
