Mielke, Robert (Bob) Mielke, adored husband of the late Dianne Mielke, was born December 23, 1943 in St. Joseph, Michigan and went home to be with Jesus following incurable illness on 5/31/2024.
While at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, he studied electronics and was the supervisor of the statistics department at The Commission on Professional and Hospital Activities (computerized data base), a job where the Lord had prearranged his meeting with and marriage to his wife, Dianne. His long and happy marriage to her was a shining example to many. He was her very best friend for 55 years.
Bob, his wife, and daughter Kelly moved to New York City where he attended the School of Visual Arts while working at the New York Times radio station as an FCC licensed broadcast engineer at the Empire State Building FM transmitter site and at their Queens AM transmitter site the mid 1960's. Later, after completing his studies in electronics and business administration, he worked for over 30 years in senior management and as Vice President in state-of-the-art electronics corporations and was a recognized expert in that field. His motto was, "Make it happen!"
Aside from work, people marveled at his ability to "fix anything" - if he didn't know how to fix it, he would simply figure it out without instructions of any kind! He would say that he really loved the challenge of figuring out how things worked! On many occasions when he didn't have the proper tools for the job at hand, he would make them himself. One was an amazing spot welder that he built that was made entirely from various pieces of things that had been discarded!
Bob had a quick wit and very dry sense of humor that was really appreciated by all who were fortunate enough to hear his quietly spoken "comebacks!" Though he didn't talk a lot, when he did speak, it was more than worthwhile, either very funny or very profound.
He was always involved helping where he could, including the Campfire Girls Board, school parent organizations and booster clubs (60's-80's), active member of the Republican party, and strong supporter of his church and ARRL (Amateur Radio). Bob held First Class commercial and Extra Class Amateur FCC licenses and was a HAM enthusiast since he was 7 years old. He always enjoyed helping others qualify for their HAM licenses, as well as allowing foreign missionaries to speak to loved ones "back home" through that media.
He loved being involved in Bible Study with his church family at Calvary Chapel Married Couples Fellowship, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, piloting his boat "Milky Way" (several times from L.A. harbor down to Ensenada in the Mexican Baja) and he loved traveling all over the world with Dianne and his granddaughters, where they shared many adventures that created very fond memories!
The Lord used Bob in many ways. Once, Bob talked a suicidal man into climbing down from the Golden Gate Bridge by telling him there was hope in the Lord and, he once risked his life to grab the fire extinguisher from his car trunk and put out an engine fire of a car hooked up to a gas pump beside a McDonald's restaurant full of parents and kids. His life was a testimony of walking in God's will.
He will be deeply missed by family and many, many friends, old and young! He joins his honey, his adored wife Dianne in Heaven and leaves His daughter Kelly. He leaves his precious granddaughters Chelsea and Taylor with whom he and Dianne cruised and traveled all over the globe many times! He is predeceased by his brother John and survived by his sister, Dawn Barkel of Coopersville, Michigan, and many loving nieces and nephews from his family and Dianne's family. He will be buried next to the love of his life (his honey), Dianne.
Funeral services will be held on 6/24/24 at Westminster Memorial Park and Mortuary, 14801 Beach Blvd. Westminster, California at 12pm, followed by graveside.
