Richard Wong, the fourth of seven children of Shew T Wong and Gim Bo Lee, was born on April 17th, 1935 in Alameda, California. He spent many of his formative years, including three years in China, working in the family laundry business. At the age of 17, he left to join the US Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. Upon returning, he completed his GED, and went on to study aeronautical engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Graduation brought a new wife and job at Douglas Aircraft designing commercial aircraft. Richard and Clarice were married on June 28, 1964 and immediately moved to southern California where they remained for 58 years. Two children later, Gary in 1968 and Sandra in 1970, he perfected his woodworking and gardening skills, while enjoying cooking/grilling, classical music, hiking and cycling.
The family, wife Clarice, son Gary with wife Nancy, and daughter Sandra with husband John, and grandchildren Erica, Jessica and Andrew, would like to thank all who have supported Richard over the years. In lieu of gifts and flowers, we ask donations be made to the American Kidney Fund in his name.
