Miyo Terrerila Yatsui

Miyo Mori was born in Gardena and raised on a strawberry farm in Orange County, Ca. She had many stories of that time. Mr. Knott would come to get she and her sister, Mary, to help pick strawberries before there was a Knotts Berry Theme Park. She was 1 of 7 siblings, 3 girls, Mary and Neva, 4 boys, Lloyd, Johnny, Eddy and Henry. All have preceded her in death except for Henry Mori of Hope, Alaska. Miyo graduated from Huntington Beach High School in 1935. She married Tadayoshi Yatsui in 1940. Tom was born in 1941.

World War II affected the Japanese Americans. Her family was interned first at the Santa Anita Race Track where they lived in a stable. The family was then moved to Rohrer, Arkansas. She had Masao George there in 1943. Jeanne was born in 1945. They were released and sent back to Long Beach, California where they lived in trailers that were part of Navy housing. They bought a home in Long Beach where she lived into her 80's.

Miyo became a jet setter then living with daughter Jeanne in Mission Viejo, then her son, Masao in Florida. She visited brother Henry in Alaska a lot. She babysat her grandkids and loved them dearly. She is survived by son, Masao George who is married to Pat. They have 2 boys Darin and Mori. Her daughter, Jeanne, has 4 children, Sean, Garret, Lindsey and Katelyn. Her son, Tom, preceded her in death along with his wife, Mindy. They are survived by Morgan and Bryan Yatsui.

Miyo has 2 great-granddaughters, and 5 great grandsons. Her loves were kids, gardening, birds and butterflies. She also loved to sew and crochet. Tad used to have to call her into the house at night, she was at home with the flowers and birds. She hiked with the Yatsui's into her late 90's. Miyo was an extraordinary person and she will be missed by many. Her motto, was to "go with the flow" and "eat strawberries".

Services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 12:00 noon in the Westminster Memorial Park Main Chapel with and interment service to follow. Arrangements under the direction of Westminster Memorial Park, 14801 Beach Blvd. Westminster, CA 92683. (714) 893-2421
