Joyce Marilyn Foust passed away peacefully on June 5, 2021, surrounded by family at her home in Fountain Valley, California. Joyce was born September 14, 1937, in Champaign, Illinois to Clyde Wilburn Dare and Edna Laura Johnson.
Joyce lived her life as God would have wanted her to, with love and grace. She shared that love with others and enriched many lives with her service and friendship.
Joyce was a 1955 graduate of Proviso Township High School and was a member of the Future Nurses of America and member of the National Honor Society. She received a scholarship from the Broadview Post of the American Legion to attend Northwestern University’s School of Nursing at Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago. This began her life-long calling as a Registered Nurse. Joyce met and married her former husband Gerald Foust of Ingalls, Indiana while attending nursing school. After their first child was born, the young family moved to Los Angeles, California. In 1963 they purchased a home Fountain Valley, California where she would raise five children and reside the rest of her life. Joyce worked for many hospitals, including Providence Little Company of Mary in Torrance, Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, and Hoag Hospital Newport Beach. Later in her career, Joyce received a bachelor’s degree in Nursing and became a Nurse Educator, specializing as an ET (Enterostomal Therapy) Nurse, and as a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator).
Joyce loved to travel, square dance, craft, host Victorian teas, socialize with the Red Hat Society, Bunco Babes, and spend time with family and friends. She had a great love for the many pets in her life, especially her cat Fritz. Joyce is survived by her son David (Sandy) of Menifee, CA, son Jeffry of Bedford, TX, son Michael (Jo) of Fountain Valley, CA, son Greg (Shannon) of Meridian, ID, and daughter Cheryl (Jason) of Temple TX; 20 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Each one is grateful for her goodness and love.
Joyce was preceded in death by her older brothers Clyde Dare and Donald Dare. Joyce lived a creative, generous, and loving eighty-three years. She made the world a better place. We will miss her tremendously. A memorial service will be held Wednesday August 4 at 12:00 at Westminster Memorial Park and Mortuary 14801 Beach Blvd, Westminster, CA 92683
