On May 18, 1954, Jocelyn Lane Gaba Palma was born prematurely in the city of Manila, Philippines. She was kept on an incubator and high doses of oxygen. She was a strong fighter and survivor. While in the Philippines, she attended and graduated from Arellano University.
She gave birth to four children, John, Dexter, Jaydee and Darlene, which were her pride and joy. She boasted about her greatest legacies; 13 grandchildren with one being her great grandchild.
Joy had moments of happiness and difficulties when living here in the US. Her first job she worked at Tommy’s Burgers and leaned her way into the United States Long Beach Post Office, providing 35 years of remarkable service. She sacrificed working a graveyard shift so that her children didn’t have to be raised in a daycare.
She was a social butterfly. She had many friends and was always around family. She loved to travel, eat out, watching Indian (Bollywood) movies with her sister and finding good shopping bargains at Marshall’s. She was also very active with her church community; always helping where help was needed.
She had so much heart, loyalty and love to give. She was generous and kind. She found and developed an undeniable relationship with God when she first joined FCFC back in 1997, now New Hope Church.
Joy knew herself and trusted in God wholeheartedly. She knew her purpose in life was to give and to forgive, always reciting her favorite bible quote Psalm 46:10 – Be still and know that I am God.
She exited the world the same way she entered on January 10, 2022 and this is how she wants to be remembered…
“I know God well and I’m going home finally in his presence. I have a mansion waiting for me!”
