She was born May 11, 1941 in Great Falls, Montana, the youngest of four children of Jean Elizabeth (Tretheway) and Morton Blair Brown, a goat dairy operator. Her family followed war work from Montana to southern Nevada to Long Beach, California where they settled in 1944. Her siblings were Carolyn, Vern and Lee.
Janet graduated in 1959 from Millikan High School, and married David Taylor in 1960. He went on to buy and operate Ace Muffler in Long Beach and later Westminster.
Janet was the mother of four sons, two of whom survived childbirth: Scott Taylor, of San Juan Capistrano, and Christopher Taylor (Chris) of Garden Grove. Although primarily a homemaker, she held jobs at different times for the City of Orange and a savings and loan. She was an active member of the Kappa Phi Sigma Sorority for many years. She and her second husband, Richard Chute, were active in the Cornerstone Community Church in Wildomar, where she taught Bible study classes.
She was known for her love of the outdoors, spending many weekends water skiing on the Colorado River and riding motorcycles in the Southern California desert. She also took pride in business ventures. At one time she owned several rental houses in Orange County with her first husband, David. With her second husband, Richard, she opened a retail store in Temecula, Houseware Mania. She enjoyed scrapbooking, quilting and sewing.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, supporting and avidly participating in the family sport of off-road motorcycling and advocating for her sons’ education. She loved spending time with her grandchildren.
For many years Richard, an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict era, was with a West Coast wholesaler of automobile paint. He is now retired and lives in Murrieta.
Besides her sons, Scott and Chris, she is survived by five grandsons, Caleb, Breyden, Cortland, Sergio and Cameron Taylor, and one granddaughter, Shawn Taylor, plus many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her brother, Lee Brown of Long Beach, and her sister Carolyn Cron of Temecula. Her brother Vern predeceased her.
Funeral services, provided by Westminster Memorial Park Mortuary, are pending. Burial is expected at Riverside National Cemetery.
