Edith Elizabeth (Liz or Elizabeth) Fleming, 91, a long-time resident of Long Beach, California, passed away January 20, 2019 of natural causes. She was born at home on December 21, 1927 in Miles City, Montana, to Herman and Elizabeth Day. Elizabeth moved with her mom to Long Beach, California, in the late 1930s, with her father following shortly after, settling in an apartment on Coronado Avenue. She was married to Long Beach native Logan Fleming on June 29, 1952. Elizabeth graduated from the University of Redlands with a BA in Education and then went on to teach kindergarten until expecting her first child. Subsequently, she stayed at home to raise her 3 children. Elizabeth belonged to several social and philanthropic women's organizations and was a lifelong member of the Assistance League and PEO Chapter DU. With a passion for travel Elizabeth was always planning a summer vacation. In the early years this included road trips to every state in the US with the family and in later years she and her husband Logan embarked on many adventures abroad with a special affection for Ireland where they visited multiple times. Elizabeth is survived by her three sons, Kevin, Miles and Craig, all of whom live locally, and two grandchildren, Brody and Shannon Fleming. A memorial service is planned at 11AM on Friday, February 22, 2019, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church Long Beach, California. A reception will immediately follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in Elizabeth's name to the Alzheimer's Association or other charity of one's choice.
