William was a Captain in the U.S. Military as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps, 9th Division in Vietnam. William was awarded the Bronze Star and was very proud to have served his country. After his service in Vietnam, he was stationed at Fort Ord and fell in love with California.
William received a doctorate in medicine from the University of Illinois and was a Board-Certified Rheumatologist who practiced medicine at Lombard Medial Group from 1972 to 1999. He will be remembered as a compassionate and caring physician.
William was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Marian Joan Kinzig Powell, whom he was married to for over 57 years; his three children, Jeffrey Powell (Tasha Bouchard), Suzanne Powell and Gregory Powell; and his grandchildren, Mia, Ava, Loic and Jackson Powell. He will be sorely missed.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, May 25 from 4-8 p.m. at Pierce Brothers Mortuary. The funeral will take place at St. Paschal Baylon Church on Friday, May 26 at 10:30am followed by a burial service at Assumption Cemetery.
