Gregory Walter Lewis, son of Ruthe Bishop and Walter Lewis, one of three brothers born and raised in Santa Monica, CA,passed away from complications of COPD.
Greg attended Santa Monica High School and played varsity baseball for three years and varsity basketball in his Jr. and Sr. year and was also a member of the YMCA Squires Social Club.
After graduating in 1956, greg Worked Briefly at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica,CA, before he and some of his buddies joined the U.S. Marine Corp. Reserves, serving from 1957 to 1963.
In 1959, he married and in 1960 became a father to a son, James and Daughter Tamara was born in 1963.
Greg began his career in 1960 at U.S. Science which became Servo Mechanisms, later Teledyne Controls, Teledyne Microelectronics and finally Teledyne Technologies.
During his thirty nine year career with Teledyne, Greg held many different positions including Contracts Manager and Sr. Program Manager where he managed many important programs including space, military, foreign and domestic from from beginning to end., traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe negotiating various contracts for components and subsystems starting in the 1960's with F-104, A -10, 747, in the 1970's viking ladder, space shuttle, in the 1980's and 90's, Global Hawk Drone, Patriot Anti Missile and BAC night vision goggles.
He was also involved in the company management club where he was once treasurer and then President. He also enjoyed playing golf and softball with his Teledyne buddies.
Greg lived in Manhattan Beach for several years where there were many volleyball games and barbeques, then moving back to Santa Monica in 1973 to take custody of his children.
In 1977, Greg met the love of his life, Nancy, Who came to work at Teledyne. Immediately smitten, they were married in 1978. Combining two families, Greg became Step- Father to Nancy's boys, Brian and Ernie from a prior marriage, and Nancy became Step- Mother to Greg's kids, Jim and Tami. They worked together for twenty years.
When Greg retired in 1999, they enjoyed traveling and visiting many casinos where Greg was pretty lucky. Eventually residing in San Fernando Valley.
Greg was well respected by his peers and loved by his family and will be greatly missed. He is Survived by his Wife Nancy, Brother Dale Lewis (Chris), Daughter Tamara Lewis Huddleston (Glenn), Step Son Brian Sepulveda (Nicole), and his four Grandchildren, Caitlin, Dylan, Jeri and Jade. Predeceased by Brother Morlan Lewis, Son James Lewis, and Step son Ernie Sepulveda.
A funeral service for Gregory will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park, Mortuary & Crematory, 5600 Lindero Canyon Road, Westlake Village, CA 91362.
