Gary McCollum, age 76, passed away early Saturday morning October 29th. He passed peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones in his final hours.
As a Deputy Sheriff for Ventura County for 32 years, Gary served the department and citizens of the county honorably. He was the founder of both the annual Christmas toy drive for the kids at the Camarillo State Hospital (supported by the Sheriff’s Department), and the co-creator of the medical trust fund the deputies have benefited from for decades.
A consummate family man, Gary loved deeply and paid it forward freely. He is survived by his son Bob McCollum, daughter Robin Johnson, and son Chris McCollum; daughter in law Monica McCollum, son in law Sean Johnson and daughter in law Lily McCollum; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and his companion of many years, Jill Roper. Gary was loved by so many within the department and community, he will truly be missed but never forgotten.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 10am at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Mortuary. His burial will follow at 11am. Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks is located at 5600 Lindero Canyon Rd, Westlake Village, CA 91362.
