Center on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was the firstborn child of Henry and Marian
Schunk. His younger sister (also named Marian) was born 17 months after Eric. Their
parents met at the University of Alabama soon after WWII. Henry was from the Bronx
and Marian was from a small town in Tennessee.
Eric graduated from Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, California and went
on to complete his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.
In the same year, he was accepted into UCLA's JD/MBA program and later began a
law clerkship for the soon-to-be Supreme Court Justice Anthony M. Kennedy. He was
quickly sought after by the internationally recognized law firm, Milbank, Tweed, Hadley
& McCloy, and became the youngest attorney to ever make partner.
Eric met his wife Carol in April, 1981 while on holiday with friends in Dallas, Texas. They
went on a blind date and Eric asked Carol to write her name and number in the back of
his travel Bible to ensure that they would see each other again. He soon referred to
Carol as his “Texas Angel.” They were married just two year(s) later and raised four
amazing children who Eric was continually proud of and loved dearly with his
enormous heart. Daniel 35 years old, Kirsten 32 years old, Christoffer 30 years old, and
Evan 27 years old continue to have the deepest respect for their father, as well as the
utmost admiration for their mother’s compassion through the years as Eric’s health
began to fail. Despite Eric’s health issues, that began when he was only three years
old, he lived his life with incredible intelligence, wit, humor, love of travel, fascination
with history and most importantly his deep love for the Lord.
Eric’s final resting place is at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Memorial Park in Westlake
Village, California.
