Doesn't seem like 4 years. Fond memories of ski trips and get together in Malibu and back East.

Dave was my brother-in-law after marrying my sister Sharon. I always enjoyed visiting them. We had our differences after she passed but I made contact a few years ago. I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. It brings up strong memories of Sharon and Dave and our times together. My sincere condolences to his family. 

An amazing leader. A great mentor. A man with wealth  of knowledge and a great heart. He is missed by all of us but he is in a much better place now and knowing him, Now that he has his own wings, he can fly and help many more in this world.  God bless him and his family. My highest respect to the family. I was proud and privileged to have known him.

Captain Dave Landry was a friend, colleague, mentor, leader, and a giant of a man.
May his westbound flight be a smooth one!

My remembrance is passing Dave in the concourse.  Suitcase and flight bag in trail.  Wearing the blue and gold of United Airlines.   A short greeting as we hurried in opposite directions.  Captain Landry was special to all of us.  For his dedication to his fellow pilot, his union, his airline and his passengers.   "United 100, turn right heading 270, contact Los Angeles  Center on  127 decimal 35.  Good day, sir."

Dave was genuine, kind, with always gentle humor.   A lovely man.  Also an effective union negotiator!  He taught my negotiation students at Pepperdine and I was amazed at his insight on labor advocacy representing the pilots in CBA negotiations at United.  Of course, we knew each other through tennis and his lovely beautiful wife Sharon.  Sharon was Mrs. Christmas.  I showed up for a Riptides tennis Christmas party on the wrong night - and ended up watching a movie with Dave & Sharon.  Sharon called Dave home to be with her in time for Christmas 2020.  That's my only comfort in knowing they are back together.  We love and miss you both.  Rest in peace our dear friends Dave & Sharon.  

I’ve known Dave since high school, some 60 years. Over the years, we have stayed in close touch and had many, many adventures. We skied virtually ever major ski area on the continent from New England to British Columbia in Canada ¬– the most memorable being a trip in the 1960s in November when we skied Monmouth Mountain, then sailed to Catalina and back to Long Beach, then flew to Denver to ski the newly opened Vail. We flew down on his twin-engine plane to fishing villages in Baja California. We spent three days in his Queens, NY apartment during one of the worse snow storm in New York City history and almost ran out of food.  And once Dave married Sharon, we had wonderful get-togethers with my family.

And for anyone who knew Dave very long, you fully understand how important the airline business, planes, and flying was to him. Too much at times!

Tennis was a big part of Dave’s life. For more than a decade, Dave would visit my wife and I in New York in September, first playing a day at my tennis club and then joining us at the U.S. Open for what used to be Super Saturday when you had the two men’s semis and the women’s final, and I still remember the day when we were there from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM! When Dave moved to Malibu, I pushed him to join a tennis club so he could have regular games. He eventually joined the Malibu Racquet Club and this became a central part of his and his late wife’s life.

Dave came from a very humble upbringing, living in a tiny home with some summer time spent camping out at a Connecticut state park, no exotic vacations. He worked at great expense to get his pilot’s licenses, spent time at a small Midwest airline, commuted long distances with United Airlines before he could secure seniority and fly out of LA, and spent an incredible amount of time solely managing apartment buildings that he and his two brothers had invested in. This was a self-made man that earned everything he had.

 I will miss him dearly.


Hi my name is Josh Samuel I work at the Malibu Racquet Club and had the honor and pleasure of getting to know this great man over the last three years. Dave always stood out to me. I could tell he had a great heart and was always very kind,friendly, and respectful to any person he came in contact with. Not once did he ever have a complaint or problem with this tough year of ever changing rules and regulations. Dave, I know, was always happy Just to be here playing tennis with his friends.  I am so grateful to have had the oppurtunity to know dave and be able to play a part in helping him do something i know he loved to do, play tennis.
