It is with great sadness that the family of Daphne Lilian Barker Frost announce her passing on June 3, 2023. Daphne, 98 years old, lived in Thousand Oaks for over 60 years and was predeceased in 1999 by her husband Douglas Frost. She is survived by her four children: Susan Simmons (JC), Kathleen Eckman, Douglas Frost (Marcia), and Gary Frost (Kelly), along with 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Daphne was born in 1924 in Essex, England, where she spent her childhood living in a bungalow near a farm with her parents and four siblings. With the onset of World War II, she joined the Women’s Land Army for England and Wales to serve her country. During this time, she met her future husband, a “Yank” who was stationed in England during his enlistment with the United States Army Air Corp. In 1947 – two years after the end of the war – she followed Douglas back to the United States where they married, settled in Southern California, and began their family. Ten years later, Daphne achieved her goal of becoming a United States Citizen. After their children were grown, the couple enjoyed many road trips in their motorhome to the Sierra Nevada, camping outings with their camping club, and spending time with their extended family. Daphne spent 24 years working in the cafeteria at Thousand Oaks High School followed by a few years working as a nanny. At the point where most begin thinking of retirement, she started her second career at 72 years of age: working as a campus supervisor at Ladera Elementary School until the age of 88. She enjoyed brisk walks in the morning and felt that most of life’s problems could be solved with a cup of hot tea. Her optimism, warm hugs, and hopeful nature will be missed by many. A celebration of her life will be held privately with family and close friends.
