Angela Catharine Hull passed away peacefully on February 12, 2014 at Thousand Oaks Royale at the age of 91. She was born September 21, 1922 in Berks County, Pennsylvania to Ludwig and Katie Gilar. She grew up in Reading, PA where she attended St. Mary’s School until 1939 and graduated from Reading High School in 1941.
Upon graduation, she worked for American Casualty Co. as a printer/off-set pressman. In 1944, Angela joined the US Navy WAVES and was stationed in Chicago where she served 2 years before her Honorable Discharge. Angela also worked at Berkshire Knitting Mills and Luden’s. On January 18, 1947, Angela married Richard E. Hull. They had 2 sons and moved to California in 1962. Angela worked for the Thousand Oaks News-Chronicle and then the Conejo Valley School District for over 22 years and retired in 1988.
Angela loved playing cards, enjoyed watching football and dancing. We are saddened by the loss of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She had a kind, loving and very giving heart.
Angela was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Sr.; her parents; and her 8 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her sons: Richard E. (Vona) Hull, Jr., Parker, CO and Ronald A. (Nancy) Hull, Thousand Oaks, CA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Candice (Cameron) Nelson and Carrie (Jason) Golden; great-grandchildren: Colin and Conner Nelson and Sierra Golden; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers and staff at TO Royale for their compassionate care over the past two years. A special thanks to VITAS Hospice staff that helped Angela through her final days. Services are planned for Thursday, February 20 at 10:30 AM and will be held at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks Cemetery in Westlake Village.
