She was a member of First Baptist Church of Westlake, she was a “quiet” Christian but very devoted in her faith. Her favorite saying was, “Oh, bless your heart”. She was a wonderful cook, best known for her candied yams and homemade biscuits and was an exceptional seamstress. She loved to travel and enjoyed being with family and friends.
The family would like to express their gratitude towards the caregivers of Stonebridge Place, the doctors and nurses at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital and a sincere thank you to Melinda Keller with Brighton Bridge Hospice for her compassion and support to our mother.
She is survived by her husband, Arvin Rivers; son, Arvin Wayne Rivers of Seabrook, TX; daughters, Zelma Hall and husband, Bob of Arlington, TX and Kay Sweeney and husband, Mikel of Moss Bluff; 7 grandchildren; Rachel Kos, Lauren Hall, Allen Hall, Tammy Stephens, Kim Burcham, Michael Rivers and Betsy Stoupy; 8 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin Dixon Carroll and Nancy Virginia Carter Carroll, 5 sisters, 1 brother and her very best friend Wordnia McDonnold.
Her funeral will be 2pm, Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Westlake. The Rev. Wayne McEntire will officiate. Visitation will begin Monday 3pm-8pm and resume Tuesday, 8am-10:30am at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens.
