Katherine was born September 6, 1925 in Westlake to Dan and Gladys Lee Bass. She graduated as valedictorian from Westlake High School in 1942. Katherine lived and taught school in Westlake, Tripoli Libya, Morgan City and New Orleans. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from McNeese State University, where she the first female to graduate with a 4.0 average. She received her Masters Degree from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA. Katherine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She retired and lived on Toledo Bend Lake in Many, LA.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of sixty- two years, Kenneth Lynell Blume; parents, Dan Sr. and Gladys Bass; brothers, Dan Jr. and Ray Leonard Bass.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Lee Blume of Ragley; brother, Kenneth Riley Bass of Houston; grandchildren, John Paul Areno IV and wife Donna of Shreveport, Kenneth David Areno and wife Camille of Las Vegas; Christy Danise Moss and husband Bob of Ragley; Matthew Cody Areno and wife Cylinda of Albuquerque; great grandchildren, Jay, Alec, Zachary and Audrey Areno of Shreveport; Jordan, Dallin, Nathan and Landon Areno of Las Vegas; Katherine Moss of Ragley; Slater, Sara, Freddie, Henry and Elanor Areno of Albuquerque; and a special friend and caregiver Susan Peyton.

Her service will be Sunday, 2:30pm at Hixson Funeral Home of Westlake. Bishop Aaron Young will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 11am until 8pm and resume Sunday 1pm until time of service.
