He was born on January 27, 1938 to parents Noles and Eunice Verrett.
Davis was a native of Creole, LA and a life-long resident of Westlake, LA. He graduated from St. Landry’s High School. He went on to serve 3 years in the Louisiana National Guard. Davis was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was involved in the A.C.T.S. community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #5755 and was a fourth degree Knight. Davis was also a member of the ABC Bowling League where he won several series and awards. He was formerly employed by the Isle of Capri Casino where he worked as a dealer. He retired as a welder from the Local #106 and also retired from the Calcasieu Parish School Board after driving bus #524 for over 25 years. Davis was a Golden Glove Boxer from High School who enjoyed umpiring American Legion Baseball, winning diving competition, golf, fishing, alligator hunting, winning most medals at the Senior Olympics, spoiling his grandchildren, and living his Cajun heritage.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 59 years Ellen Thorton Verrett; his four sons David Verrett and Lisa of Westlake, LA, Michael Verrett of Westlake, LA, Bryan Verrett of Westlake, LA, Jimbo Barrentine and Paige of Moss Bluff, LA; two daughters Cindy Guillory and Matt of Ragley, LA and Badera Gadd and Don of Sulphur, LA; five brothers Milton Verrett of Ragley, LA, Leroy Verrett of Lake Charles, LA, Manny Verrett of Lake Charles, LA; Willie Verrett of Ragley, LA, and Morris Verrett of Ragley, LA; three sisters Mable Soileau and of Lake Charles, LA, Delores Kershaw of Lake Charles, LA, and Nita Diamond of Giddeon, TX; sixteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Davis is preceded in death by his parents Noles and Eunice Verrett; one son Johnny Verrett; and two sisters Dorothy Higginbothin and Debbie Verrett.
A visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home in Westlake, LA on Sunday December 12, 2021 beginning at 5 pm until 8 pm and a rosary will take place at 6 pm. The visitation will resume Monday December 13, 2021 at 8 am at Hixson Funeral Home and until 9:45 where the services will move to St. John Bosco Catholic Church for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am. Burial will immediately follow at Westlake Memorial Park Cemetery.
Those given the honor to be the pallbearers are Hayden Verrett, Austin Verrett, Aaron Verrett, Alec Verrett, Kevin Verrett, and Nick Gadd.
