March 16, 1993 – August 18, 2020
With deepest sorrow we announce that Chris Barran passed away of cancer on August 18th after 10 months of illness.
Chris will be missed every day by his father Paul; mother Judith Bus; devoted big sister Ilona, equally devoted triplet sister and brother Alexa and Michael (Jen); and the love of his life, Hannah Thomson. They will feel the loss of his unparalleled sense of humour, both dry and goofy, for the rest of their lives.
Also left to mourn are his uncles, aunts, cousins, and many dear friends.
Chris was an avid, and talented soccer player (WVFC, NSPPP, EFS). After graduating from Sentinel Secondary School, he attended Queen’s University. His incredible work ethic allowed him to attain a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry while he followed his passion of playing varsity soccer.
One of Chris’s greatest joys was hiking, which he loved to do in his own backyard of the North Shore mountains and abroad, including recently in the Alps, the Himalaya(s), and New Zealand.
Chris graduated with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Victoria in June 2019. After 3 months of trekking and travel with Hannah, Chris started a Clerkship at the Federal Court of Canada in Ottawa.
His whole family (including Hannah) was able to spend the last few months constantly by Chris’s side.
Our sincere thanks to Dr. Lakha, the doctors and nurses of the North Shore Hospice, the West Van Community Care Team, as well as all the wonderful friends and family who have provided us invaluable comfort and support.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a scholarship at the University of Victoria Faculty of Law being established in recognition of Chris’s exceptional impact on his law school community.
