Kenneth Gösta Ronér, 73, of West Valley City, passed away on October 28, 2024. Born in Stockholm, Sweden, on September 23, 1951, to Gösta Harry and May Iris Johansson Ronér; the second of their three boys, Kenneth immigrated to the United States with his family at the tender age of five. As devoted members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, his family cherished the blessings of the temple, and one of Kenneth's earliest memories in the U.S. was being sealed to his parents in the Salt Lake Temple.
Kenneth graduated from South High in 1970, and after serving a mission in the Philippines, he pursued a degree in accounting at the University of Utah, earning his Bachelor of Science. Throughout his career, he worked for several companies, but found true fulfillment during his years in the Department of Finance for the State of Utah. Known for his friendly demeanor, Ken was the go-to accountant on the help line, assisting various agencies with the state accounting system.
On July 15, 1977, Kenneth married Renée Lanphere in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they welcomed four children into their family, enduring the heartache of losing one in infancy. Ken was a devoted husband, caring for Renee during her long illness and standing by her side through her final months battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She passed away under his watchful care on March 6, 2024.
An accomplished gardener, Ken took immense pride in his yard, delighting in selecting flowers for his pots each year. A weather enthusiast at heart, he had once received a scholarship to study meteorology but ultimately chose a path in accounting. His family fondly remembers receiving his frequent texts with weather updates and record-breaking events. He loved people, and would create time to be with them. He enjoyed telling jokes, and would laugh heartily at the ones that he thought were the best. He was also the family baker, and delighted in providing sweet treats to those around him. If there was a gathering, he was sure to come with a plate of cookies in hand. In addition to this, he was the family photographer and historian. He had an old camera that he bought on his mission in the Philippines, and it was an ever present part of our childhood. We have decades of memories because of his photography skills.
He continued Swedish traditions with his family that they will fondly remember and continue such as the Julbord on Christmas Eve, making the most delicious pepparkakor for Christmas, and enjoying semlor during the Easter Season. He was thrilled that his grandparent name was “Morfar,” which means mother’s father in Swedish.
Kenneth is survived by his children Jessica (Gordon) Hayes, Erika (Thad) Messenger, and Zachary Ronér; his three beloved granddaughters, Annalise, Emmaline and Gwendolyn Hayes, along with his brothers Harry Kent (Janice) Ronér and Greger (BryAnn) Ronér. He was preceded in death by his son Andrew, his parents Gösta Harry and May Iris Johansson Ronér, his sister Anita Ronér Melin, and his beloved wife, Renée.
Kenneth's legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will be cherished by all who knew him. His loss is deeply felt by those who loved him. Vi älskar dig för alltid.
