Marty was born June 27th, 1966, in Granger, UT, to Timothy and Carlotta Gutierrez. He was always a kind-hearted and thoughtful child, giving to those that were in need. These traits followed him into adulthood, where he would give the jacket off his back and a hot meal to anyone in need. Marty’s parents are forever grateful that they had the opportunity this last year to enjoy some extra time with him.
Marty was married to Penny Trujillo Gutierrez for twenty-five years (later they divorced, but remained close friends). He was honored to help in raising and being a step-father to Sontara Trujillo Nguyen, whom he loved very much. Marty also had many lifelong childhood friends that he considered his brothers and always remained in close contact with them.
Marty attended Taylorsville High School, then went on to cook, manage and cater for Diamond Lils. Many recognize him for his skill in the kitchen and the training they received under his direction. Later he went on to work for Bout Time Pub & Grub and Siragusa’s Italian Cuisine. In addition, he catered many weddings, tailgates, and events for friends, family, and associates. In 2017, Marty made a career change and took a truck driving position with Sunroc.
Marty (Marticus) enjoyed the outdoors on the back of a motorcycle and was a member of the Freerider of Utah. He spent many hours donating his time and attending meetings at Alano Club, where he was surrounded by those who understood his struggles and loved him. He was a mentor for many years, offering his service and understanding to those that suffered from his same affliction.
Marty will be remembered and greatly missed for his deep conversations, compassion for others, and heart of gold.
