Dear Karen Mayne Family

Thirty years ago 1994, my husband H. Craig Hall Sr. ran a republican campaign against Ed.  It was a brave attempt and thankfully not meant to be.  We became  acquainted with this delightful couple as the opponent.    We fought to the end of course but it did not take long before we knew that Ed was the better choice for the job.    Through the whole experience there was no negative campaigning on either side.  it felt very unusual but they were  very gracious and became good friends.   We, along  with most people were delighted to have Karen eventually take Ed’s place at the senate and she served along effectively with our son Craig Jr. and everyone else in the legislature.   Craig Jr bought our home in WVC in  2005..  He would have loved that senate spot but everyone knew that Karen could not be defeated.  She had true love and respect for all people.

The funeral service was impressive and thoughtful.  We did not make it to the visitation to introduce ourselves so we wanted to express our sympathy in this way to your family.  Thank you for sharing both of your amazing parents with the state of Utah.

Last November I had the honor of receiving an award at the Utah Apprenticeship Summit. I had the honor of meeting Karen and shook her hand upon receiving my award. She was a wonderful representative to receive such an award from. I would have never guessed she was battling such a horrible disease…. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and loved ones. Her work and dedication in the field of representing men and women especially in skilled trades will be greatly missed. She leaves awful big shoes to fill.

I'm honored to have joined Karen's mission to empower women in the trades. I've attended several media events with her, and I've seen firsthand her strength, spirit, and unwavering dedication to mentoring women and advancing the labor movement. I am deeply grateful to be part of this journey and to continue her legacy through Utah Women in Trades. She will dearly be missed and I send my up most respect and condolences 🙏

I am deeply saddened to know if Karen's passing. It was such a privilege to know her and have her in my life. I remember being invited to serve with her and Judy Blaufuss in an organization that focused on women's issues in the greater Salt Lake Area.  How wonderful it was to work with such a committed and faithful person with a servant heart. I was always so grateful of her support while I was the pastor at Trinity UMC and her faithful service there has left a legacy.  Our family will be praying for all of you.  With love,

What started with knocking on doors, pounding signs, and stuffing campaign literature—grew into a lasting friendship. No matter how high the stakes, Karen could always make me laugh with a witty joke. But beneath the humor was a deep wisdom that I’ve carried with me throughout my career. She uplifted communities, personally looked out for every worker, and damn… was she good at passing bills. Karen was the most careful, tactful, and sharp legislator I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. Whether I was managing her campaign, interning for her in the Senate, or sitting with her at West Valley community events, my admiration for Senator Mayne only deepened. Thank you for teaching me everything. Thank you for the friendship. I love you and promise to carry your memory with me always.

Karen made a lasting impression on my life. As a valued member of Valley West Rotary, I saw in her someone who lived to serve, and understood that that’s the only way to live. And with Karen, we were never short of corn at Thanksgiving! Until we hopefully meet again Karen, I commit to service in your honor.

I was a classmate of Karen at Granger High School and I remember her as always full of fun and humor. I am so sorry that she has passed on and yet thankful her suffering is over. I worked for and with Karen during the 1980 Census covering the Kearns area. Had some interesting experiences trying to count some households. Karen was a great trainer and friend. She always remembered me whenever our paths would cross. She was and is a great lady. I have so much respect and love for her. Fly high Karen!!

I was Senator Mayne’s intern during the 2019 legislative session and consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to learn from such a great mentor and person. She taught me the importance of loyalty, hard work, and empathy. Karen was always focused on fighting for her constituents and all citizens of Utah. I have never met another person like Karen who cared so much about keeping workers and families healthy and happy. She still inspires me to this day to be a better person and fight for those who can’t fight for themselves. Thank you for everything, Karen.

We are so sorry to learn of Karen's passing.  Our deepest sympathies to Karen's family and other friends.  My wife, Karen, and I have been friends and associates of Eddie and Karen for over 40 years and we valued their friendship.  Even though we were of different political persuasions, we didn't let that interfere with our respect and friendship of each other.  We join the Mayne family and Karen's many friends in bidding her farewell as she advances to another level of existence where we hopefully will greet her again.
