Utah, returned to her loving Heavenly Father on Monday, 28 August 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Judy was born 12 April 1950 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Hannah Doreen Stagg and Leo Glen Florence, and raised in Magna, Utah, by her mother and stepfather, Glen Edwin Thornwall, where she was active in her community and church. She was a proud graduate of Cyprus High School in Magna, Utah, where she participated on the Spinnaker Drill Team. She married her eternal sweetheart, Blaine Carter Olsen, on 8 October 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple while Blaine was on leave from the Army. They spent the first few months of their marriage in Texas before returning back to Magna to put down roots and raise their family.
If you were fortunate to have met Judy, you would have immediately felt of her warmth and caring. She emulated the Savior Jesus Christ in both word and deed. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings over the years, but her fondest calling was Family History Consultant, as she had a passion for family history; thanks to our mother’s efforts, our family tree can be traced back many generations. She also worked in several capacities in the Salt Lake
Temple and she developed a kinship and love with many of her co-workers whom she considered part of her adopted family. During her time working in the Salt Lake Temple, she had the opportunity to serve and interact with many church leaders and apostles, from which she developed a strong and unshakable witness that God has called prophets again on the earth to lead and direct his restored church in our day.
Judy played cards like a shark and could play board games with her family and friends until the wee hours of the morning. Judy taught her children how to cook and she instilled in them the conviction that recipes were meant to be enhanced. Her cinnamon rolls are legendary, and her dinner rolls award-winning. There is nothing she couldn’t sew, and she loved to spend time creating crafts with her friends and family.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Blaine C. Olsen, and her four children: Jeff (Dawn) Olsen, Lori (Jimmy) Jacketta, Amy (Alan) Bone, and Jodi (Blake) Jensen, as well as thirteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, all of whom correctly believe that they were her favorite (at least that is how she made them feel). Judy is also survived by her stepfather, Glen E. Thornwall, and six of her seven siblings: Cheryl (Leon) Pullar, Ada (Craig - deceased) Jorgensen, Leo (Pat) Florence, Norma (Ed) Lence, Glenna Thornwall, and Naomi Ann Florence. Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lisa (Rick) Kelsch.
