Ivan Carl Anderson, age 93 was born October 4, 1923 to Carl and Susie Anderson in Richmond, Utah, and passed away peacefully in his home June 2, 2017. Ivan graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah in 1942 and received a Union Pacific Scholarship to Utah State University in Agriculture.
Ivan was a World War II veteran who served 34 months in the army 401st Field Artillery Group and participated in five different campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He spent 141 continuous days in combat and was awarded the bronze star for laying communication line across the Rhine River under heavy mortar and sniper fire.
Ivan was active in the LDS church and held many positions in both his stake and local wards. He loved the Lord and his priesthood. Ivan worked for John Deere, Caterpillar, Marquart Aerospace and Hercules, Inc. from where he retired in 1986.
Ivan married Nadine Johnson February 5, 1943 in the Logan LDS temple. Nadine was his life. Ivan and Nadine had four children, Ivan Dean (Diana), Glen C (Rachel), Shanen Fletcher (deceased), and Carl (Cindy) Anderson. Ivan has 15 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Ivan liked to hunt and fish with his sons, grandsons, family and friends, and especially liked fishing, camping and golfing with Nadine, his pride and joy, who could often out fish him. They enjoyed being together more than anything else.
Ivan’s special fishing friends were Lee Newman, Ron Black and Ray Hansen. His largest fish was a 62 lb king Salmon caught on the Keni River in Alaska, and his most enjoyable fishing experience was in the Canadian Klondike with his son Glen and grandson Rob.
Ivan was preceded in death by Nadine after 63 years together, and his daughter Shanen. We know they were waiting for him with open arms.
A viewing will be held from 10:00 am - 11:45 am Saturday June 10th with funeral services following at 12:00 pm at the Jordan North 8th Ward, 3900 South 4000 West, West Valley City Utah. Interment will be held at Valley View Cemetery, 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, Utah, immediately following the funeral.
