Dywane passed peacefully with several of his beloved children and grandchildren by his side on October 19, 2023. Born February 28, 1938 in Gridley, CA to Kenneth Jerome Calapp and Vera Rosella Josephine Hardesty Calapp. He was the oldest of 3 children with Sara Lorraine Calapp Horrocks (Richard) next and Keith James Calapp (Shirley Larsen) following.
He grew up on Baker Avenue in Sacramento, California. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a Sr. in high school his church basketball team took regionals and traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah to compete in nationals. He graduated from CK McClatchy High School in Sacramento, CA in February 1956. Shortly thereafter, his mother marched him down to enlist in the US Navy where he proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged. He served on the USS Enterprise and USS Nimitz.
On September 20, 1958 he married Jonn Clare Hertzig in Los Angeles, California in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints temple. They were the proud parents of 6 children; Veronica Gale Gann (Martin Gann), Kenton Ellis Calapp (Caroline Nelson), Denise Jonell Calapp, Wilbur (Burr) H Calapp (Shannon Rozsa), Lorna Lorraine Slabaugh, and Justin Wade Calapp.
He was an aviation quality control specialist. He was proud to have worked on the early Top Gun planes doing quality control for their repairs. His service in the Navy moved his family a great many times. During his civilian life he lived on Whidbey Island, WA, in Elk Grove, CA, Mossyrock, WA, San Diego, CA, and in his latest years ended up in numerous places on the Wasatch front in Utah.
As a young father he often worked two jobs and long hours to provide for his family. A logging truck accident in his late 30’s left him in chronic pain for the rest of his life. He enjoyed family, friends, drawing, leatherworking, fishing, horses, sailing, archery, shooting and reloading and his western, war and martial arts movies. He loved his country.
He is survived by his 6 children, 22 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way, whom he was proud of and loved very much. He delighted in being with, talking to, seeing pictures of them and hearing about what they were doing.
He has been preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Jonn Clare Hertzig Calapp in 2017, as well as his parents, brother, Keith James Calapp and granddaughter, Kira Isabel Bird.
