Beth Sorensen

I, Beth Sorensen, graduated Spanish Fork High in 1944. My parents were Effie Eliza Nelson Sorensen and James Sorensen Jr. and they had 12 children: Harriet, Mary, James, Emma Catherine, Wallace, Ardena, Frank, Mildred, Marion, Beth, Florence, and Pauline. My sister Florence (Ewell) is my only surviving sibling, except for my best friend JoeAnn Smith whom I consider to be one of my sisters. You will note that I am the tithing child (tenth). Emma Catherine only lived six months – She and I are the only two not to marry. Thus, I have no children, but I have one adopted granddaughter, Beth Skillin of Fairfax, Virginia. I do have 26 nieces and 22 nephews for a total of 46. Six of them are deceased. I have more nieces and nephews than any of my siblings; because they cannot count there own children as nieces or nephews.

After high school graduation and after attending the Gregg Shorthand School/Gregg College of Commerce few months I worked for a number of different companies in Phoenix, Arizona; I was employed at McKesson & Robbins, Inc. a wholesale Drug Company, Atlas Furniture Company, Austin Furniture company, and Arizona Hardware Company.

In 1949 -1950 I served a 20-month LDS mission in the Canadian Mission. I have been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through out my life and have served in many Stake and Ward positions.

As a member of the American Business Women’s Association I received their “WOMEN OF THE YEAR” award 1967-1968. I was a member of the Zonta International for 10 years, 1975-1985. Both of these organizations provide scholarships for young women with Zonta International specializing in scholarships in the field of aerodynamics. In both organizations I served as secretary/treasurer and on various committees.

Upon retirement I worked part time for the Curriculum Department and Church Magazines Department of the LDS Church.

I had the opportunity to travel to many different parts of the world and it has been great to see, visit and enjoy some of God’s creations – there is just too much to see in just one lifetime. I traveled to various parts of the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Far East, Middle East, Europe and the South Pacific. I never tired of visiting new places.

I am very thankful for my close association over the years with family and friends; it has been wonderfully overwhelming! I am truly grateful for having had a wonderful life.

Beth Sorensen’s viewing will be held Friday evening 6-8 pm at the Valley View Mortuary, 4391 W 4100 S, Salt Lake City, Utah. Her funeral services will be held from 11am-12pm with a viewing from 10-11am at the Palmyra Ward at 1866 W 5000 S, Spanish Fork, Utah.
