Born to Charles A. Wood and Thelma McBride Wood on March 12, 1939. Ben graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City, Utah. He went on to serve in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve for a total of 6 years military service. He served as an Honor Guard and received decorations and commendations as a Marksman (Rifle) and Sharpshooter (Pistol). He was discharged honorably and was very proud of his military service. After serving in the U.S. Army, he returned to Salt Lake and married his wife, Gloria Hollingsworth, July 12, 1962.
He was employed by Hercules Powder Company as a truck driver and retired after 35 years of service with the company. He received countless safety awards and was often responsible for transporting missiles and explosive material.
He was very proud of his home and enjoyed meeting a few of his old friends every Wednesday morning for many years at Dee’s Restaurant for breakfast.
Preceded in death by his Wife, Gloria; Sisters Hope, June and Bebe; Brothers Bill and Charles; Parents Charles and Thelma.
He is survived by his Daughters, Shauna Chagnovich (Marty), Lori Harrison (Doug); Son, Jack Brannon; eight Grandchildren, eight Great Grandchildren and Brother, Tom Wood (Janene).
A special thanks to Karen Chagenovich, Veterans Home Health Care Team and Superior Health Care Hospice Team for all their assistance in helping to care for him in his final days at home.
Funeral services will be held in the Chapel at Valley View Memorial Park located at 4335 West 4100 South on November 30, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. and will be followed by military honors at graveside.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
