Our sweet mother, grandmother, and friend returned to the loving arms of Jesus on October 21, 2022 with her adoring family by her side. She was the center of our family, and will be forever in our hearts.
Barbara was born on June 7, 1933 in Seattle, Washington. Later, her family moved to Los Angeles, California, where she spent the majority of her childhood. While in Los Angeles, she met the love of her life, Bert, and they were married on August 10, 1957. Bert’s career in the United States Air Force took the happy couple to many places including Maryland, Hawaii, New Jersey, and Utah. Early in their marriage, they had two daughters, LeeAnn and Lori.
As her children grew, Barbara worked as a Title 1 Aide at Stansbury Elementary in the Granite School District. After retirement, she continued working with children by volunteering in the classrooms of her grandchildren. She was a full time volunteer at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, and later spent countless hours volunteering in her daughter Lori’s classroom at Uintah Elementary in the Salt Lake City School District.
Barbara loved her family. She had three grandchildren; Lacey, Dixie, and Brady. They were the light of her life. She felt lucky to be able to spend so much time with them as they grew up. Barbara loved playing tennis and was winner of the state championship at Bell High School. She also enjoyed reading mysteries, sewing and crafting, giving gifts, cooking and baking, attending musical theatre productions, cheering for the Utah Utes Football team and the Utah Jazz, brunch dates with family, outings with her daughters, the smell of rain, and basking in the warm sunshine. The recent vacation to Carmel-by-the-Sea to celebrate her 85th birthday was a highlight for Barbara and her family.
Barbara was known for her infectious smile, warm and comforting hugs, beautiful handwriting, love for animals, being there for friends in need, quick wit and sense of humor, inability to say “NO”, cute little drawings and embellishments on cards she gave, and the special touches that she added to celebrations. No party was complete without smiley face stickers, nut cups, and balloons.
Barbara loved Jesus. She was the finest example of a Christian. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Granger, and most recently attended South Mountain Community Church. Barbara was selfless and generous. She donated to numerous charities and causes.
Barbara was preceded in death by her brother Billy Weiss, parents William H. and Bertha L. Weiss, and husband Bertram L. Brown. She is survived by her daughters LeeAnn L. Burton (Stewart) and Lori L. Brown; grandchildren Lacey L. MacDonald (Steven), Dixie A. Painter (Tyler), and Brady Burton; her loyal cat, Boo; and many dear friends.
The family wishes to thank Elevation Hospice. In particular, the compassionate and tender care given by Barbara’s nurse, Melinda.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest donations to the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake. Additionally, share a smile, give a hug, and be kind. Barbara would love that.
A private family service will be held.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ValleyViewFuneral.com for the Brown family.
