Lucy Evelyn Ryan (Reynolds) passed away on July 31, 2022 after a brief illness. Born in Franklinville NY to Willard and Marian Reynolds in 1945, Lucy and her siblings grew up on a farm on what is now Reynolds Road, where she gained a life-long love of nature and appreciation for self-reliance. Always creative, she earned a degree in arts education from Buffalo State University and taught briefly in the Buffalo public schools. With her first husband, the late Albert Tesluk, she raised two sons in Amherst. She continued to make art: stained glass, knitting, baking, and tried to pass along a green thumb to her boys by planting a large garden in an empty “borrowed” lot. In the 1980s Lucy started back at school, first earning a paralegal degree and ultimately graduating from University of Buffalo law school in 1989. After passing the New York Bar, she worked for the Social Security Administration in Buffalo.
Lucy married C. Allan Ryan in 1994. Lucy and Al enjoyed traveling, especially to visit family and friends, being active in their church community at Westminster Presbyterian and supporting local progressive initiatives and candidates.
Lucy is survived by her sister Edith Anderson, sons Paul (Megan Hurley) and Christopher Tesluk (Brockett Horne), four grandchildren Mick, Ellie, Bess and Peter Tesluk, step children James, Christopher and David Ryan, Mary Zimmerman, Elizabeth Murray and Martha Hunt and 11 step-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is planned for October 15th at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Buffalo at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lucy’s honor to WNED and WBFO Buffalo.
