Robert B. Goodnough was born on April 26, in Binghamton, NY, and passed peacefully on November 18, 2022 in West Palm Beach, Fl. Robert was 94 years old.
Robert was predeceased in death by Sallie, his wife of 69 years, brother David, and parents Bruce and Norine.
Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and subsequently served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
After completing his military service, Robert joined IBM in Endicott, NY in 1952 in the Education Department and received many promotions during a long career with the company. He worked in Public and Community Relations in Manassas, Virginia, Boca Raton, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia and Dallas, Texas. One of his many significant accomplishments was as Executive Director of the Manassas Centennial Celebration in 1973. Robert served his community by volunteering on various boards and community projects including Manassas Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and Challenge, Inc. He retired from IBM in 1989 and went into business for himself as a communication consultant in the data processing and telecommunications industry.
Reading, one of Robert’s favorite pastimes, allowed him to enjoy his extensive book collection. Additionally, he raced canoes, played golf, and loved ballet and opera. He was most passionate about running, completing many marathons including The New York City and Boston Marathons.
Robert is survived by his sister, Nancy Morse (Hartwell), his children, Thomas (Signe), Karla Wright (Thomas), Sandra, Robert Jr., grandchildren Whitney, Zachary, Kendall, Sarabeth and Colleen, great-grandchildren Noah, Jackson, Ava, Adalyn, Joshua, and Nathan.
