

Mary was the daughter of Edward F. and Josephine Healey, born in Manhattan, NY, on December 23, 1920. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1939. She married Charles “Jim” Behr in 1942. The Behrs moved to West Palm Beach in 1945 where they contributed much to the community through building developments such as El Cid and Prospect Park.
Mary was a mother (of 7 children) and homemaker until joining the business world in her late 40’s. Mary retired after 21 years with the Palm Beach County Chapter of the American Red Cross where she was on staff as Director of Volunteers and also Director of Public Relations. Her activities included volunteering in various roles in her childrens' schools both at St. Ann’s and Rosarian Academy. Following retirement, she was an active member of her parish, St. John Fisher Catholic Church, as a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Women’s Guild, and Auxiliary Member of the Legion of Mary; a volunteer of 20 plus years at Mary’s Hospital and with Hospice of Palm Beach County.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Jim and her son, Charles. Mary is survived by her loving family, including Mary Jo (Bill) Simeone, Royal Palm Beach, Ann Susan (Richard) Sanford, Wellington, Veronica (Les) Logan, Plantation, Elizabeth with whom she lived, West Palm Beach, Joseph, Pompano Beach, and Therese, Plantation; seven adored grandchildren, Lisa (Toby), Kristina (Sam), Katie (Tom), Andrea, Chad (Nicole), Caitlin and Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren, Charlie, Chloe, and Gabriel; a nephew, John McInerney; and daughter-in-law, Karinne Behr. She will also be remembered fondly by the many friends she has made throughout the years in business, volunteer work and her church affiliations.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Quattlebaum Event Center, 6411 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 31, 2019 at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4001 Northshore Drive, West Palm Beach, FL, at 11:00 AM. Interment is at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, West Palm Beach.
