Javier is survived by his children, Gloria Lucia Lopez and Jacqueline Lopez-Devine (Greg Devine); siblings, Gustavo Lopez (Margarita), Mario Lopez (Ruth), Hernan Lopez (Libia), Alberto Lopez (Consuelo), Guillermo Lopez (Zulma) and Mariela Lopez (Javier Gomez); grandchildren, Javier Kaivan Rezakhani (Anna Rezakhani), Alexandro Rezakhani (Vanessa), Joseph Devine, and Diana Devine; great grandchildren, Leo Rezakhani and Eydie Rezakhani. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucia Lopez and sister, Angelica Suescun (Jorge).
Javier was born 11/12/29 in Abejorral, Colombia to Jose and Carolina Lopez. He graduated from La Escuela de Minas in 1955 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He married Lucia Lopez, in 1955. After moving from Colombia, S.A. to the United States in 1963, Javier began working in his field of engineering. Over the years, the couple welcomed two daughters, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren into their life and Javier set about teaching them the value of faith, family and commitment in doing the right thing in school, home and at work. His daughters and grandchildren remember him as a true gentleman who was devoted to his faith, family and career. Javier made a positive impact on everyone he met. His diplomacy and respect for others transcended every aspect of his life. Javier encouraged his daughters and grandchildren to pursue their goals and higher education.
Javier was accomplished within Palm Beach County and the engineering community and served frequently as a mentor to novice engineers. He was instrumental in the design and development of major Palm Beach County roadways and bridges. He was truly a generous and kind gentleman who loved to help others in their time of need and who was passionate about life. He was an active and dedicated member of the St Juliana Catholic Parish and part of the founders of the local Cursillo movement. He was always very proud that he became a United States Citizen in 1973.
A celebration and memorial service is scheduled for 5:00pm on Wednesday, May 17 2017 at Quattlebaum Funeral Home 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33417, with a reception to follow at Madison Green, 2001 Crestwood Blvd N, Royal Palm Beach, FL 33411.
Father Jose will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Javier’s life.
