Jerome Martin (Jerry) Bronfman, D.D.S., 91, of Boca Raton, FL, formerly of West Orange, NJ, died at home, Sunday, June 16, 2013. Born October 3, 1921 in Newark, N. J. to the late Ida and Benjamin Bronfman, Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Norma Lee Levenson Bronfman, brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Effie Bronfman and sister-in-law, Mary Levenson. Jerry is survived by sons Stuart B. Bronfman (Barbara) of Burlington, VT, Dr. Richard A Bronfman (Sheila) of Little Rock, AR and Dr. Robert B Bronfman (Lee) of McLean, VA, brother-in-law Milton Levenson of Menlo Park, CA, cousin Charles Fain of Boca Raton, FL and numerous Bronfman and Levenson nieces, nephews, other lifelong friends and extended family. He is also survived by his special friend, Sylvia Heisman of Boca Raton, FL
Jerry did two tours in the Army 1942-1944 during World War II and 1951-1953 as a Captain in the Dental Corps during the Korean Crisis.
He graduated from Montclair State Teachers College and did post graduate work at LSU and Stanford before graduating from the University of Minnesota Dental School, where he met his wife, Norma. He then set up his general dentistry practice in Newark, NJ in 1947. After his final discharge from the Army he returned to West Orange, NJ where he continued his dental practice until his retirement in 1989. During his time in New Jersey he was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue.
Dr. Bronfman was an active member of the Essex County, New Jersey and American Dental Societies. During his dental career he volunteered at the Beth Israel Hospital Dental Clinic and for the American Cancer Society. After retiring he volunteered regularly at Daughters of Israel in West Orange and was an active volunteer for Hospice By The Sea in Boca Raton until the last year of his life.
The family would like to thank our special angel, Marjorie Meikle. Also Annmarie Hudson, Marie Thompson and Desreen Meikle for their wonderful love, care and companionship in their time with Jerry. Thanks to Sue Kaufman for being such a wonderful friend and neighbor.
Jerry’s remarkable health to the end can be traced to frequent naps, two vodka’s with lime before dinner and an active social life.
