George G Samra Jr. entered into the Kingdom of Heaven November 13, 2016, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born June 4, 1929 in Worcester, MA. to his parents George and Sadie Samra. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Army, serving our country in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he married his loving bride Delores “Dolly” Husson Samra on August 30, 1953. They relocated to West Palm Beach and George embarked on his career as a barber. His 808 Barber Shop, where he worked for over 60 years, still exists today. His passion was his mentoring to organizations and individuals. He was the last founding member of St. Mary's Orthodox Church, ordained as a sub-deacon, served on the parish council for almost 40 years and sang tenor in the choir. He was a recipient of the Antonian Silver Medal and received the Antiochian Orthodox certificate of meritorious service award.
He was a 33rd degree mason and founding member of Palm Lodge #327 since inception in 1958,(now Palmwood Lodge #303), serving as Master twice, as District Deputy Grand Master, KCCH, a Hiram award recipient, Master of Kadosh at Scottish Rite of Lake Worth and received the Royal Order of Scotland.
He was a member of the mid-east chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, member and treasurer of the Zoological committee, a 25 year member of the WPB Parks and Recreation serving as chairman 6 times. A life member of VFW Post 2007, having served as commander.
He is survived by Dolly, his wife of 63 years; his children, Jane, Darlene, Susan and Mark; his grandchildren, Jason, Sammy, Stephanie, Shannon, Marybeth, Jenna, Carly, Alexis and Blake; great grandchildren, Aubree and Hattie and his brothers, Raymond (Ginny) and Roy (Maureen).
Arrangements are as follows: Visitation to be held from 5:30-7:00pm on Wednesday, 11/16/16 at St. Mary's Orthodox Church, 1317 Fla. Mango Road, West Palm Beach, Fl. The Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 PM. Graveside Committal Services will be held at 10:00 Am on Thursday, 11/17/16 at Hillcrest Memoria Park, West Palm Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Orthodox Church.
