Florence D. Sherman, passed peacefully on September 3, 2023 at her home in Palm Beach, Florida. Born in Bridgeport, CT in 1926, after graduating high school, she furthered her education at St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing in Bridgeport and worked there as a Registered Nurse. She later became nurse manager for the Department of Radiology. Florence resided in Palm Beach, Florida for over 40 years.
Preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Dr. Irving J. Sherman; son Howard Stanton Sherman; parents Michael and Anna (Gaweuch) Dizdul and brother John J. Dizdul. Survived by her daughter Andrea Barletta of Tolland, Connecticut and three grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle and Alexander (spouse Alexis and their children, Sofia and Eric).
Florence was an elegant woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She was especially loving and devoted to her husband and cared for him in his later years. She and her husband were benefactors to Johns Hopkins University Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery, and were instrumental in endowing several professorships and programs to assist the Johns Hopkins clinicians and scientists learn new techniques and perform ground-breaking research. Florence and her husband created The Florence and Irving J. Sherman Memorial Charitable Trust for the benefit of Johns Hopkins.
Visitation is at 1:00PM on Friday, September 8th at the Quattlebaum Funeral Home, 5411 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, Florida. Burial at 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 9th at Mountain Grove Cemetery, 2675 North Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut.
